Duxbury Free Library at 77 Alden St, Duxbury, MA.

Description: Come and join us for the Grand Season Opener. Learn about what will be happening in the new season and enjoy our Focus Group Slideshows. Following the slideshow presentations, there will be an opportunity for members to signup for some of the Focus Groups.
This is also great opportunity to socialize and reconnect after the summer hiatus.
October - Daytime Long Exposure

Jürgen Lobert is a Massachusetts-based, award-winning fine art photographer and educator, born and raised in Germany. He specializes in night photography, daytime long exposures, urban exploration and infrared imagery.
Jürgen has curated photography exhibits and his artwork is in the permanent collection of the Art Complex Museum, Duxbury MA and private collectors.
Jürgen also organizes photo excursions, workshops and tours, and he is an international lecturer, instructor and competition judge and has learning channels on Patreon and Substack. He has taught photography at the New England School of Photography and Griffin Museum of Photography. He is a Master Member of the New England Camera Club Council (MNEC) and the founder and organizer of the Greater Boston Night Photographers Meetup group.

November - Norman Smith, Raptor Specialist

Norman Smith is a self-taught naturalist who has worked for the Massachusetts Audubon Society since 1974. He recently retired as Director of Blue Hills Trailside Museum and Norman Smith Environmental Education Center in Milton, Massachusetts where he had worked for the past 50+ years and has taken on a part time role to continue his research on raptors.
Norman has studied birds of prey for over 50 years, including rehabilitating the injured and successfully fostering over 1,000 orphaned hawk and owl chicks into adoptive nests. His ongoing long-term projects include trapping and banding migrating hawks and owls in the Blue Hills Reservation, banding nestling hawks and owls, and doing research on snowy owls and other raptors wintering at Boston's Logan International Airport. He has also traveled to Alaska to study snowy owls in their native tundra habitat. His research work has been published in National Geographic, National Wildlife, Ranger Rick, Yankee, Massachusetts Wildlife, Bird Observer, Birding, Sanctuary, Geo, Nature, Grolier Encyclopedia, Owls of the Northern Hemisphere and Owls of the World.
His mission is to use the information gathered from his research to stimulate a passion in everyone he meets to help us better understand, appreciate and care for this world in which we live.
December - Revolutionize Your Photography Planning with Susan Magnano

In this presentation, I’ll share the apps, tools, and planning strategies I personally use to scout locations, track weather, predict the position of the sun, moon, and Milky Way, organize my travels, and build smarter shooting schedules.
I’ll also share real stories and hard-earned lessons from the road, including the successes, surprises, and occasional planning mistakes that have shaped the way I photograph today. Whether you’re planning a local photo outing or a journey across the country, you’ll leave with a practical system for spending less time managing logistics and more time creating meaningful photographs.
Because being at the perfect place at the perfect time isn’t always luck. Very often, it’s great planning.
Bio:
Susan Magnano is an award-winning photographer, educator, and visual storyteller who transforms darkness into art through light painting and long-exposure photography. Drawing on a background in photojournalism and more than two decades of experience, she founded Photour Adventures to bring together her love of photography, travel, and teaching.
Susan spends half the year living on the road, exploring the American Southwest and moving from one remarkable landscape to the next. Her firsthand experience scouting unfamiliar locations, adapting to changing conditions, and photographing after dark shapes the practical guidance she shares with her audiences.
Through workshops, photo walks, and presentations around the world, Susan helps photographers move beyond simply documenting what they see to creating images with intention, imagination, and a distinctive personal style. Her signature Luminescent Portraits and night photography have earned her recognition as an ambassador for Benro USA and Nanlite.
